Deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council of the VII convocation prepared an appeal to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, which is planned to be adopted on July 28 during the fourth session of the regional council.
In the appeal, the regional deputies appeal to the head of the Government on the necessity of signing a new intergovernmental agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic on the transfer of responsibility for the provision of air traffic services and the operation of the international airport "Uzhgorod".
The fact is that "Uzhgorod" airport is the only one in Ukraine with the mountain status and it is located in the border zone. Maneuvering of aircrafts for landing and after take-off is performed in the airspace of the Slovak Republic on the basis of the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic on the transfer of responsibility for the provision of air traffic services and the operation of "Uzhgorod" International Airport dated February 12, 2004, which was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 19, 2006 and which was effective only until June 16, 2016.
"Since the agreement expired on June 16, 2016, we ask you, dear Volodymyr Borisovich, to intervene in this situation and take all possible measures for the urgent renewal of the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic on the transfer of responsibility for the provision of air traffic services and on operation of the "Uzhgorod" International Airport", – the draft appeal, which was published on the site of the Regional Council, says, – the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional Council informed.
As of now, the absence of the agreement has led to the suspension of regular flights Uzhgorod – Kyiv – Uzhgorod from the airport "Uzhhorod" since June 6 this year and, as a result, has caused the stoppage of Transcarpathian Regional Utility Enterprise "Uzhgorod" International Airport".
