In the city of Haivoron (Kirovohrad region), a GR-280 locomotive was loaded on the railway platform for subsequent transportation to Transcarpathia.
This is the final stage of implementation of the pilot project of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine with the support of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration together with partners from Germany and Switzerland. The use of a retro locomotive in Transcarpathia was conceived at the beginning of the year for the revival and popularization of the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway. In recent months, the project has been on the brink of failure several times, due to technical reasons, but they were able to bring it back to life.
– The locomotive GR-280 will be running on the narrow-gauge between Irshava, Khmilnyk and Vynogradiv from the end of July till the end of August on weekends and holidays, – Hennadiy Moskal says. – The locomotive will drive three passenger cars and a cargo car for bikes, small cargo and catering. All cars are ours, that is, from the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway. Before the transportation of the retro locomotive to Transcarpathia, the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway was thoroughly inspected by the adviser to the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Sebastian Trolle and the chairman of the public organization Michael Schneeberger. The pilot project using GR-280 is only the first part of the plans for the revival of the Borzhava narrow-gauge railway.
