Uzhgorod residents are sounding the alarm because of the cutting of old oak trees on Solovyina alley (PHOTOS)

The information was shared by Victoria Kuzma, painter and wife of the famous artist Boris Kuzma.

"Oak has long been considered a symbol of strength, courage, longevity, generosity and wisdom. We are very happy people because we live next to the most beautiful and oldest oak alley in Uzhgorod. These trees have become members of our family, witnesses of our lives, our happy and sometimes not very happy moments, they know our secrets and dreams, because we talk to them every morning, afternoon, and evening. I am sure that they have seen a lot in their long lives…

And who would have thought that anyone would dare to cut down, destroy what residents of the neighbourhood have been cherishing and admiring for many years.

Thus, on Turystychny lane in Uzhgorod, one of the developers has started sanctioned cutting of the relict oaks on Solovyina alley, which stretches from the Kalvaria to Turystychny lane and above, and which is more than 100-150 years old. It should be noted that the wise developer supported his barbaric actions with necessary permits issued by the city mayor’s office.

In late 2016, the developer built a concrete fence and, obviously, intentionally damaged the roots of one of the trees. And now, the commission concluded that it is a dry tree and included three more oaks!!!!!!! What am I feeling???? Each sound of a falling branch is a bitter lump in the throat, pain in the chest, tears in the eyes, I’m lost for words….. How to stop this abomination? How to stop? How to save what is left? How???"
