Transcarpathians soon will be able to import cars from Canada duty free

The FTA with Canada will come into force on August 1, 2017.

Following the Verkhovna Rada, the Canadian Parliament also ratified the agreement.

The FTA with Canada may be of interest not only to Ukrainian industry but also to motorists. The thing is that Article 2.4 of the agreement abolishes all duties on used cars from Canada, regardless of age and engine size.

In addition, the duties on new cars with 2200-3000 cc petrol engines and above 2.5 liters diesel engines are also abolished. There will still be 7-percent duty on other new cars from Canada, but it will decrease by 1% every year. That is, in 8 years (in 2025), this duty will be equal to zero.   The VAT on cars remains the same – 20%. Of course, the cars in Canada meet North American standards, therefore changes will have to be made, for example, in their optics. Also, the time of delivery by sea (about a month) and the cost of transportation at 2000-3000 dollars should be taken into account.
