Heavy snowfall in northern Hungary began on the 19th of April. On the Kekes mountain – the highest point of Hungary – the snow cover is 10 cm, the Mukachevo.net informs.
On April 20, strong wind and snow caused the closure of roads in the central and eastern parts of the country. In some places, snow drifts reach up to 30-50 cm. On most roads, snow cover is 1 to 7 cm.
Bad weather also caused major delays in railway and public transport, including railway lines and public transport routes in Budapest.
Due to bad weather, the police decided to cancel the speed control campaign Speedmarathon. Also, the closure of more than two dozen roads has been reported – mainly in Pest, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplin and Heves regions.
But there are people who rejoice the sudden snowfall in April. As you can see in the photo, Hungarians started making snowmen and sledding.
A similar situation due to snowfall is prevailing in eastern Slovakia.
