How winter meets spring in the Carpathians

Fragile harbingers of spring are the main stars of the season in Transcarpathia.

In the highlands of Rakhiv district, they are especially wonderful, since it difficult to get them and to find them.

Winter and spring meet on the Apetska meadow: white cold cover and the first plants that have awaken from sleep. They themselves are like a dream – bright rays on the stll sleepy earth covered with snow ot a thick layer of last year’s leaves. Tender colors and soft shapes of the flowers are in an interesting contrast to the harsh mountains, steep slopes and strong hardened trees; and under strong mountain wind, snowdrops and saffrons are proudly rejoicing the sun, so gentle and so strong at the same time…
