Until recently, about three hundred trees were growing on this hectare of forest in Velyky Bychkiv forestry at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level.
The necessary sanitary felling (because of sick and withering trees) turned this site into wasteland but only for a short time. This Tuesday, Transcarpathian foresters together with children – pupils of school forestries – gave new life to the area with a difficult terrain. From now on, 6,000 seedlings of the species characteristic of this area will be growing here: beech (3000), European spruce and white fir (1200), maple-sycamore (500) and ash (100).
The tree planting in the Tomashchuk forestry ("Bozheny" tract) took place in the framework of the campaign "The future of the forest is in your hands", which has been conducting in Transcarpathia for 12 years now. This year, the plans are more than ambitious: to plant 10 million new trees in the Carpathian forests during this spring.
The forest is our air, the beauty and richness of the Carpathians, and indeed the future of our land. To make the next generation understand this, the tree planting forest process takes place with direct participation of children. And the children received incredible emotions and another lesson of respect for nature.
Transcarpathian foresters emphasize that today restoration works are performed on every cut down plot in the region. They mention the aphorism "Cut down one tree – plant two" and say that they do much more: 11 to one in favor of the forest. At least in Velyky Bychkiv forestry. They cite figures. This year, they plan to plant trees on 161 plots with a total area of 195 hectares, where 62,000 trees were cut down, and instead 690,000 seedlings will be planted.
