Prosecutors found out that Uzhgorod residents were paying for water at inflated rates

Prosecutor’s office, during the verification of the legality of formation of tariffs for centralized water supply and sanitation, found out that the municipal enterprise "Production department of water supply and sewerage of the city of Uzhgorod" had wrongly included to the structure of tariffs for 2015 the costs of depreciation in amount of over 900,000 UAH, which were not used for reproduction (repair) of fixed assets, the 0312.ua informs.

Therefore, the utility company illegally received a significant amount of money from customers as payment for services at inflated rates, thus causing damage to the territorial community.

The regional prosecutor’s office has launched a criminal proceeding over this incident on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (embezzlement in a large scale).

The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities and forfeiture of property.
