Transcarpathian deputies ask the country’s leaders not to cancel the moratorium on the export of wood

The Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis made this proposition at the session of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, which is taking place today in Uzhgorod.

This decision is the reaction to the promise of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman to cancel the moratorium on the export of unprocessed timber. "We calculated that every citizen of Ukraine will receive $ 15 of loan, but we will be selling the wood until the end of our lives. Therefore, we appeal to the country’s leadership with a proposition not to cancel the moratorium," – Mykhailo Rivis said.

He reminded that at the last plenary session, the Regional Council already appealed to the Parliament with a request not to abolish the moratorium on the export of logs. The relevant parliamentary committee answered that they fully supported the moratorium.

However, the chief forester of the region Valeriy Murha said that Transcarpathia is not affected by the moratorium very much, as before the ban only 10% of wood had been exported. Now, this persentage is even less – under 1 per cent. The rest is sold domestically. "It concerns mainly other regions, because we (Transcarpathia – auth.) had been exporting only about 10 percent of the total volume of wood," – Valeriy Murha commented.

In addition, Transcarpathian deputies will ask all the other regional councils of Ukraine to support their appeal.
