“Winter on Fire” – Uzhgorod residents are invited to the screening and discussion of the film

On February 20, Monday, at 17.00 in the Transcarpathian Regional Scientific Library   (Svoboda Ave., 16), on the occaion of the Day of Heroes of Heaven’s Hundred, there will be a screening of the documentary directed by Evgeny Afineevsky "Winter of Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom."

      The world premiere of the film took place on September 3, 2015 at the Venice Film Festival. The film was also shown in the main competition at the film festival in Telluride in 2015 and in the documentaries section at the International Film Festival in Toronto in 2015, where it won the audience award for best documentary. It was nominated for the "Oscar" in 2016 in the category "Best documentary feature film". The film includes interviews with protesters, footages from the protests and an extensive view of the conflict

     The film shows Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity in winter 2013-2014 caused by the violent dispersal of a peaceful demonstration of students by the police detachment "Berkut", which led to the overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovych. Evgeny Afineevsky and his crew were interviewing protesters, activists, medical professionals, artists and clergy representing different generations, social strata, ethnicities and religions, including a 12-year-old volunteer.  "Winter on Fire" documents the struggle of Ukrainian protesters who stood their ground despite the bloodshed, despair and severe conditions.
