Transcarpathian region continues to suffer from bad weather. Because of snow melting and ice drifting, 10 ice jams formed on the rivers of Borzhava, Velyka Uholka, Krasna, Odarov, Richanske, Khustets and Rika. Because of that, many yards, houses, farmland in the region were flooded.
In particular, water and ice drift caused a lot of damage to the settlements situated in Khust district. But here, the mini hydropower plant in the village of Nyzhniy Bystry took the blow. The dam, built in the Rika riverbed, saved from flooding the villages located downstream – Berezovo, Horinchevo and Lypcha. According to Bohdan Kyniv, the Deputy General Director of the "Akvanova development" LLC, it was possible thanks to modern European technologies, because the mini hydropower plant was built under the control of Italian designers.
Currently, the management of the mini hydropower plant in Nyzhniy Bystry inform that they are closely monitoring the situation. If necessary, special equipment and rescuers will be engaged to clear the river from ice jams.
