The first day of thaw in Uzhgorod: drifts, slush and helplessness of the utilities (PHOTO)

As we reported, after prolonged frosts, thaw has come in Uzhgorod and once again confirmed that the utilities are not ready to deal with consequences of the changing weather.

Piles of snow, that bulldozers made along roadsides, began to melt and flood the sidewalks. In those places, where snow was taken out and the pavement was cleaned to solid surface (mostly, on the main streets), pedestrians more or less are able to move. But those, where roads and sidewalks were covered with a thick ice crust, are now flooded with slush and dirty water.

On pedestrian crossings, people have to jump from one ice island to another.

The puddles are so deep that one may consider using water transport.

For example, the former channel of the Small Uzh, and now Fedynets street, in some places, seems to be trying to return its former status and appearance.

Naturally, the old large puddles, that come after every rain, have also appeared. Maybe they were included to the list of Uzhgorod infrastructure historical monuments under protection?

Along Koryatovich street, the places, where drivers are used to park cars, have also turned into small pools. I wonder how did drivers and passengers manage to get out of these vehicles and how are they going to get back inside? Unless they learned to overcome gravity and levitate, they won’t be able to do it without rubber boots.

I also want to warn all Uzhgorod residents and visitors: in these weather conditions, try to move away from walls and closer to the center of the streets. There are still many heavy snow "caps" on the roofs. Their fall from a great height can cause serious injury.

Be careful!
