On Saturday, January 28, at 14:00, the Nomen invites to join a virtual trip "Uzhgorod through the twentieth century: the Habsburg era" with historian Vladislav Tovtyn. The event will take place in the cultural and historical center "Owl’s Nest".
How Uzhgorod was seen by its residents and visitors during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Republic and the Soviet period – these topics will be discussed with Vladislav Tovtyn during three meetings. The first part of our virtual journey through the past century will be devoted to Uzhgorod during the Habsburg era. In the early 20th century, Uzhgorod was a small town on the outskirts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. What did the town attract tourists with? Where did its residents spend time? Where did they go to see the movies, what did they wear, how did they drink coffee in the hotel "Bercheni"? What were the best hotels and restaurants of Uzhgorod comitat? Through history, architecture, culture and everyday life, we will try to see how our city as it was more than 100 years ago.
Vladislav Tovtyn is a historian and ethnographer. He graduated from Uzhgorod National University. He is engaged in cultural and gastronomic tourism in the Carpathian region. Participant of the project "Uzhgorod Open Tours".
