Information on transit of vehicles with foreign registration by nationals of Ukraine

Recently, the owners of vehicles with foreign registration have been repeatedly raising the issue of the abolition of the "transit" regime or increase of the transit period for importation of foreign registered vehicles driven by citizens of Ukraine. Another demand is to create conditions for simplified border crossing by such cars, in particular without actually crossing the border by affixing marks of the border and customs services in the passport of the vehicle owner.

Note that border crossing by persons and vehicles is carried out through checkpoints established by the relevant agreements. Each checkpoint consists of two parts – Ukrainian and adjacent side – and is a single structure. The fact of border crossing shall be border and customs clearence of a person and a vehicle at a checkpoint (in Ukrainian and berdering country’s parts).

It should be noted that clearence of vehicles with foreign registration in transit is within the jurisdiction of the SFS and regulated by the laws of Ukraine.

Terms of importation of such vehicles by citizens for personal use are set out by the Customs Code of Ukraine. Simplified customs control of vehicles for personal use being imported in transit regime without leaving the customs territory of Ukraine is contrary to the applicable law.
