A citizen of Ukraine tried to carry tobacco products across the border, but was stopped at the checkpoint "Maly Berezny" by the Transcarpathian customs officers together with the border guards.

A Ukrainian driving a car "MERSEDES BENZ VITO" arrived to the area of customs control through the "green corridor" lane. The driver presented passport of a citizen of Ukraine and registration documents for the vehicle for the customs control.

Employees of the customs office, following analysis of risks, took the vehicle out of the "green corridor" into the "red corridor" for an in-depth inspection. Before in-depth inspection, customs officials asked the Ukrainian whether he was transporting any goods and items prohibited or restricted for export from the customs territory of Ukraine and hidden from customs control.

The citizen said that he was carrying nothing of the above and committing no illegal actions.

During the in-depth customs inspection of the vehicle and the driver’s personal belongings, they found 557 packs of cigarettes with excise stamps of Ukraine, undeclared during the oral questioning and hidden from customs control. The tobacco products were hidden under the front seat in a specially made niche and under the car in the spare wheel. The value of the found cigarettes was more than UAH 9.5 thousand.

Thus, the citizen of Ukraine committed acts aimed at moving goods across the customs border of Ukraine concealed from customs control, ie using specially made caches impeding their detection.

Based on Article 511 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, under the report of customs rules violation, the cigarettes, the spare wheel and the vehicle were seized.
