The funeral of the head of the Transcarpathian Folk Choir Mykola Popenko will take place today in Uzhgorod

The funeral of the legendary artist Mykola Popenko will be held on October 4 in the lobby of the Transcarpathian Regional Philharmonic. 

The work of Mykola Popenko is a whole era in the musical culture of Transcarpathia. In particular, in the life of the Transcarpathian Folk Choir, it not only contributed to further development of the choir, but also significantly influenced the development of professional musical culture. Championing Transcarpathian folk songs and songs of different ethnic groups living in the region, Mykola Popenko defended the professional culture from attempts to negate its richness and adapt it to Soviet standards.

Recall that Mykola Popeno was an outstanding composer, conductor, folklorist, teacher, artistic director of the Honored Transcarpathian Folk Choir and Honored Artist of Ukraine.
