Tremors, that shook the Romanian Carpathians a few days ago, caused great hype in the Ukrainian media.
As it turned out, this increased interest in possible disasters in the future is not unfounded. At least, such is the opinion of the director of the seismic hazard department of the Institute of Geophysics Oleksandr Kendzer, who never tires of repeating that although earthquakes here happen rarely, it does not mean that Ukrainians can relax. After all, almost the entire territory of the country is potentially earthquake-prone.
"The strongest seismic impacts, that could amount even on weak soils to 9 points, are in the south-western districts of Odessa region. In Odesa itself, they are about 7 points, and about the same value applies to Chernivtsi region. Transcarpathia is also a dangerous area, the impacts there may be up to 8 points," – the expert warns in the comments to the TSN.
