According to popular legend, the souls of sinners gather in the Nesamovyte lake in Rakhiv district

Nesamovyte is the most mysterious lake of the Carpathians. Whatever skeptics may say, but popular legends have it that there is something there, the Depo.Zakarpattya informs.

So, the first legend: it is the place where hail is born. Hutsuls believe that the souls of sinners, who killed themselves or other people, gather in the lake. And if you throw a stone at them, that is stir the surface, a rider on horseback comes out of it and rides among surrounding rocks, striking out stones that turn to ice. Then the sinners emerge from the lake, gather the ice and fly over Chornohora in black clouds: wherever they open the bag – it hails there.

The second legend: a long time ago, a young girl drowned in the lake, and she gets very angry if someone swims in it. Anyone, who dares to do it, will receive a bad weather as punishment.

The third legend has it that at night souls of suicides dance around the lake and they can drag to the bottom a reckless person who gets caught by them. The only thing that can save from the evil spirits is the sound of trembita. Also they say that if an unmarried (single) person washes with the lake water, he or she will find a mate within a year.

Reference: the Nesamovyte glacial lake is located in Rakhiv district of Transcarpathian region. It is situated in a large hollow in the north-eastern slopes of the Mt. Turkul, at an altitude of 1750 meters above sea level. The length of the lake is 88 meters, width – 45, area – 3,000 square meters.
