The highest rate of attacks on freedom of speech was registered in Transcarpathia

In June, the most common violations of journalists’ rights in Ukraine were obstruction – 7 cases, and beatings, attacks – 5 cases. This data were obtained during the monthly monitoring of the Institute of Mass Information "Freedom of Speech Barometer".

This month, the IMI recorded violations of press freedom and journalists’ rights in 11 regions. The highest number of these violations was recorded in Transcarpathian region – four cases (detention, threats, obstructions and restrictions on access to information). Next comes Zaporizhzhya region – three cases (beatings and obstructions). The third place is shared by Volyn, Kharkiv regions, Odesa and Kyiv – two recorded cases in each. In other areas – one case in Cherkasy, Kherson, Rivne, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions each.

Mostly journalists’ rights this month were violated by ordinary citizens – 11, as well as members of regional councils, city councils – 2 cases each. Also, violations were committed by border guards, an MP, the media, the police and officials – 1 case rach.
