In Transcarpathia, measures are being to enable forests prevent floods and river drying-out (PHOTOS)

These measures include cleaning and lighting to increase the growth of the species composition of vegetation, improve their quality, productivity and biological stability, shorten the technically ripe wood growing term, enhance water conservation and protective functions.

– Over the growth period, forests go through different stages of development. In the early years, young plants grow, forming dense thickets. Dense plantations suffer from lack of light, water and nutrients. If such plantations are not helped within up to 10 years, their mass extinction can happen. Minor tree species, the trees, that shade the main species, are removed.   Lighting is carried out to enhance the growth of the main tree species – the director of the SE "Uzhgorod forestry" Vasyl Kyi says.

Thus, in 2016, it is planned in the forests of the SE "Uzhgorod forestry" to carry out thinning in young plantations over the area of 66.3 hectares, including lighting over the area of 39.0 hectares. All works will have been completed by October 1 before the end of the growing season.
