It has long been known that a traffic light is very much needed at one of the busiest pedestrian crossings in Uzhgorod – on Koryatovich square, near the Central Market. For more than ten years, it has been bothering everyone, except for the city authorities and those responsible for traffic management.
Finally, this summer, they started doing something about it. They inspected the traffic light, decided on the necessary spare parts, repaired it, and today, on Saturday, it is already working!
However, so far, this achievement is being somewhat squandered by… our mentality. Citizens habitually do not pay attention to the device and cross the roadway whenever they feel like it – green light or not.
Drivers, according to our observations, were a bit more attentive – although sometimes a bit late, but cars would stop at prohibiting signal. Some of them were very surprised.
