Transcarpathian boxers were competing at the Zonal Championship of Ukraine

Last week, the Zonal Boxing Championship of Ukraine for juniors born in 2002-2003 took place in Lviv.

The Boxing Federation of Transcarpathia delegated to this competition the largest team in the entire history of Transcarpathian boxing.

18 athletes under the supervision of two coaches represented the region at the national level competition. In addition to gaining experience in a tournament of this level and boxing practice, the goal of the participation was to secure as many berths at the Ukraine’s Championship to be held in Uzhgorod from 18 to 24 of April as possible.

Because, in order to take part in the finals of the Championship of Ukraine, it is not enough to be a champion of a region, one has to at least become a finalist of a zonal competition. As a result, 83 young boxers from Lviv, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions were competing for the title of champions in the Western Zone.

As a result, not everyone could win the right to compete at the Championship of Ukraine. Khalus Mykyta and Popelych Yuri (both members of the sports club "Summers", Mukachevo), Horzov Volodymyr (sports club "Croton", Irshava) and Pantyo Bohdan ("Kolos", Irshava) won gold medals; members of the Mukachevo club "Spartak" Rokitsan Milan, Tatarenko Vitaliy, Uzhgorod athlete Kanalosh Lubomyr, Pyvovar Maxim from Chop and Yuriy Rusin from the village of Zavidovo in Mukachevo district won silver medals.

"The team performed not as good as we hoped, but we have what we have. We will draw conclusions, work on the mistakes and make every effort to adequately represent the region at this year’s main event – the Championship of Ukraine" – the team coaches Valery Vyshnyov and Oleksandr Salahyeyev commented.
