Today, at the customs post "Tisa" on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, Transcarpathian customs officers prevented an attempted export of ancient books.
The driver of a minibus "Renault Master" – a citizen of Moldova – moving to Germany, while passing customs control, indicated in the declaration the information on the vehicle and personal belongings. However, when checking the vehicle, customs officers found in the luggage compartment undeclared in the declaration and in the oral survey foreign products of the printing industry: books "Das Evangelium Johannes" by Otto Stockmayer, 1927 edition and "Predigten by C .H.Spurgeon, 1877 edition. Undeclared goods were in a travel bag among the personal belongings of the foreigner.
The citizen did not recognize the books as his property, stating that he was carrying them at the request of a woman who lives in Odesa to give them to her daughter in Germany, where she is studying.
Thus, the citizen of Moldova failed to declare in the prescribed form accurate information about the goods being moved by him across the customs border of Ukraine that are subject to mandatory written declaration and relevant permits.
Therefore, to determine the value and also to determine whether the found objects are of any artistic or historical and cultural value, it is necessary to engage an art expert.
Currently, in accordance with Article 511 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, the ancient books were seized under a report.
