Tomorrow, Uzhgorod residents are invited to make a family talisman – rag doll (Announcement)

The workshop "Make a rag doll yourself" on the occasion of the International Day of Puppeteer will be held on March 21, 2016 at 14.30, the Transcarpathian Regional Scientific Library (Svoboda Ave., 16), mukachevo.net informs.

The organizer of the event, NGO "My Transcarpathia", invites everyone to the beckoning world of rag dolls that reflects the ancient culture, traditions and worldview of our ancestors. A rag doll is not only a cultural symbol. It is also a powerful home charm, a ritual item, a toy for children and adults, an original souvenir and a home interior decoration.

The tradition of making rag dolls, unfortunately, is being forgotten.

Our workshop will help you learn about the types and purpose of rag dolls, traditions, rituals and customs with which they are associated, easy techniques of making them and just spend some time over an interesting and useful activity.

Made by skillful and caring female hands, a rag doll emits light and warmth. It is made faceless, meaning that no evil spirit can enter the doll through the eyes and harm its owner.

This feature makes rag doll a wonderful gift. The event is free. The workshop will be conducted Galina Styuflyayeva.
