How official Mykhailo Rivis potrayed St. Nicholas

In 50 years of its existence Velyky Berezny boarding school has never seen such a fabulous visit. Today, it is the only institution in Transcarpathia where children with disabilities, cardiovascular diseases, from poor and large families, orphans and abandoned by parents learn and live.

Kids and teachers were pleasantly surprised by a noble deed of the Chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis who came there as a real St. Nicholas with presents for all the inhabitants of the institution. Dressed as a good old St. Nicholas, the "chief" of the regional deputies personally came to the dormitory and put sweet gifts for kids on every cot. After that, the kids came into their bedrooms and with undisguised joy rushed to the gifts. 

Then the boarding school director Ivanna Romochuska invited the senior official to see the New Year and Christmas exhibition of creative students, which featured different embroidery pictures, products made of beads and wood, pictures of children’s dreams. Then, other traditional guests – the management of the Transcarpathian customs office – joined them. For 15 years now, the customs officials have been visiting the school on St. Nicholas Day. The customs officers also came to the children with gifts and sweet fruit.

Then the guests were invited to the concert with singing, dancing and reciting of poems prepared by a team of teachers and students. This once again proved that today’s students of the school are creatively gifted.

– In passing, I appeal to all refional deputies not to be indifferent and to contribute to such an enjoyable cause to cover the maximum number of boarding schools, family-type homes and give children joy, happiness, and especially – attention, – Mykhailo Rivis said.
