Resident of Rakhiv district are afraid of disaster

Alarming news are coming from the mountainous district of Transcarpathia. Rakhiv district today was the first to be affected by the element – a mud stream came down near the village of Bilyn.

Now highlanders expect new problems. The Tisa adds more concern – it has almost overflowed its banks.

Photos were published on social networks by Pavlo Marynets. He writes: "Flood in the Carpathians! The Tisa is overflowing its banks, unfortunately, the human factor also affects. Forests must be protected!".

Anton Zelinsky, who for many years was representing Rakhiv district as a member of the Regional Council, is also concerned. He writes: "If in the next few hours it does nor start snowing in the mountains, instead of heavy rains, there may be trouble."

Mr. Anton, who was the head of the State Emergencies Service Office in the region, adds: "I have talked with the guys from Yasinya, Rakhiv, they say that the situation is very threatening, the water is rising continuously, but as always, there is hope that the nature itself can save the situation, if rains in the mountains will turn into snow…".

Local residents also inform that there is no road traffic between Rakhiv and Yasinya.
