Less than 5 years later… Pogorelov promises Uzhgorod residents uninterrupted water supply

In early September, Uzhgorod residents may have water supply without restrictions that are applied for consumers today.

This was announced by the Mayor of Uzhgorod Victor Pogorelov on Thursday, August 27 at the session of the City Council.

"Already the next month we can do it – cancel the schedule of water supply, because we will have the technical capability. Uzhgorod water utility for two years has been changing the scheme of water supply in the networks," – the Chairman of the City Council said.

However, there is a big problem of the consumers’ indebtedness for water supply. This may hinder the implementation of the plans, which Uzhgorod residents have been waiting for years.

The City Council emphasizes that uninterrupted water supply depends on how regular consumers pay for the services.

Almost every month, the water company receives from the "Zakarpattyaoblenergo" warnings of disabling power supply, because, due to its own debts, the organization does not pay for electricity. Over the past four years, Uzhgorod city council has allocated the water utility about 6 million hryvnia to cover this debt and for technical modernization, including the introduction of energy-saving technologies.

The uninterrupted water supply in Uzhgorod was one of the main election promises of the current mayor. However, Uzhgorod got a chance to see it done just before the next election.

Currently, most consumers in Uzhgorod receive water on schedule: some blocks in the intervals 6-9; 12-14, 18-23 hours, others – from 6 to 23 hours. Only a few neighbourhoods, mainly on the left bank, which receive water from the Mynai intake, have uninterrupted water supply.
