Geoffrey R. Pyatt is in Transcarpathia

Today, July 21, in Uzhgorod, the US Ambassador to Ukraine expressed the official position of his country regarding the events involving the "Right Sector" in Transcarpathia. After the meeting with the head of the region Hennadiy Moskal, Geoffrey R. Pyatt, in particular, said:

– I really appreciate what Hennadiy Moskal told me about the recent events involving the so-called "Right Sector." What to do these groups now is entirely in the hands of the Ukrainian government and Ukrainian law enforcement authorities. But I want to note that we, the United States, strongly support the position expressed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and the head of the region Hennadiy Moskal, that the use of force, use of weapons is the exclusive prerogative of the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian government security forces. This is a generally accepted democratic standard…

At the meeting, they also discussed the developments in Eastern Ukraine and investment opportunities in Transcarpathian region. According to Hennadiy Moskal, not a single major investment project has been implemented in the region since 2005.

– I asked Mr. Ambassador to help with the US investments, and I guarantee for my part that the investor will not spend a single cent on the corruption component – Hennadiy Moskal said.
