On June 10, in the Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, there will be the opening of the exhibition of works by famous embroiderers from Volyn Svitlana and Galina Makhoniuks.
The Makhoniuk sisters were born on May 31, 1964 in the village of Omeliana in Rivne region. Later, the family moved to the village of Ovadne in Volyn region. Hard physical ailments limited life opportunities of these talented girls, but did not destroy their significant spiritual potential.
Studying in the Boryslav Specialized Boarding School, the sisters became infatuated with the art of Ukrainian embroidery. Working hard and selflessly, Galina and Svitlana created a lot of brilliant decorative works – more than 300 towels, including 100 in their own collection exhibited in numerous exhibitions.
In total, the family-creative tandem has had about 40 solo exhibitions and several honors and awards, both at local and international levels.
In October 2009, Svitlana Makhoniuk’s heart stopped beating. But the unfading wonderful garden embroidered by her together with sister Galina will impress any true connoisseur of folk art.
Thus, the exhibition will feature a selection of works in various embroidery techniques.
The opening of the exhibition is at 15.00.
