On May 29, 2015, Ukrainian gas transport system operator "Ukrtransgaz" JSC and Hungarian FGSZ operator signed an agreement on cross-border gas pipeline connection between Ukraine and Hungary.
This was announced by the press service of the "Naftogaz Ukraine".
As noted, the agreement applies to all pipelines crossing the Ukrainian-Hungarian border and conforms to the current EU energy legislation. In this sense, it is the first such agreement between the "Ukrtransgaz" and GTS operator of a neighboring EU country.
According to the intention of the European Commission, the agreement will serve as a model for other agreements on interconnectors between GTS operators of the EU member states and the "Ukrtransgaz".
The capacity of the interconnector in the direction of Hungary is 26 billion cubic meters a year, in the direction of Ukraine – 6.1 billion cubic meters per year.
"Agreements on interconnectors is the only legal basis for operational cooperation between operators of neighbouring gas transportation systems of the Energy Community member states. The exchange of information on gas flows, their direction, volume, time, customers, etc. is carried out based on such agreements. Without such an agreement, the exchange of relevant information is not carried out." – the statement reads.
Thus, Hungary became the first country of the European Union, where this barrier to fuller integration of the Ukrainian gas transport system in the European gas market was eliminated.
"Currently, we are working on signing similar agreements with the Slovak, Polish and Romanian operators," – the NAC said.
