The battle of Iwo Jima was the first military engagement of US forces on the Japanese land and one of the worst in the Second World War, although it took place on its final phase.
In addition to the symbolic photo, a US Navy battleship was named after the island and the victory on it, and the monument was erected near the Arlington National Cemetery based on the photo "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima."
The mini-sculpture was unveiled in the morning on Tuesday, February 17, in the yard of the 4th school in Uzhgorod with Slovak language of training. The opening was attended by the initiators of the idea – entrepreneurs Alex Rovt and Serhiy Moshak.
The author of this project, as well as the previous mini-sculptures, is Mykhailo Kolodko. The inspirer was Fedir Shandor.
