IMF wants to help Ukraine in the issue of privatization

The International Monetary Fund believes that the performance of both ownership and control functions by the state is ineffective.

This was announced by the IMF technical mission head Brian Alden at the meeting with the President of the Fund Dmytro Parfenenko, the "UNIAN" reported.

He said that it was important for the mission to join the reform of the state enterprise sector, which is being widely discussed in Ukraine.

In turn Parfenenko noted that the benchmark for the State Property Fund in the privatization will be the list of privatization objects for 2015, the preparation of which is entrusted to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and which must be approved by the Government.

He also said that there are still many state-owned enterprises that are waiting for privatization and for which the state for obvious reasons can not provide neither investment nor financing.

Also, according to Parfenenko, a number of major companies, such as Odesa Port Plant, are also waiting for investors.

He also said that today the government and the Prime Minister are in favor of the elimination of any artificial restrictions on participation in the privatization of state property.

"We understand that private owner is more effective than the state, which cannot give investments for enterprises. Although now, because of the situation in the country and the associated risks for investors, is not the best time to sell large projects, we need to have a solid platform for privatization at the highest level", – the head of the SPF said.
