The prosecutors have answered…

The criminal proceeding over the mass brawl at the butcher festival in Hecha has been initiated – the prosecution office ensures control over the course of the preliminary investigation, the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office of Transcarpathia informed.

As previously reported, January 31 at the butcher festival in the village of Hecha in Beregovo district, there was a mass brawl with many victims.

According to the Beregovo interdistrict prosecutor Vladislav Bratyuk, who was at the scene along with the investigative team, "It is preliminary established that there was a scuffle between two groups of people, who attended the festival, with the use of wooden bats, sticks, and other objects. As a result, seven people with injuries of varying degrees were delivered to the receiving department of Beregovo Central District Hospital."

 Also, the prosecutor added that after committing the act of hooliganism, another group of yet unidentified eight persons left the scene in two cars model and license plates of which are already known to law enforcement officers.  

 The senior investigator of Beregovo District Police registered the incidence in the Unified register of pre-trial investigations, and the investigation of the criminal offense has been initiated.

The preliminary classification is Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code Ukraine – hooliganism, that is a gross violation of public order on the grounds of apparent disrespect for the community committed in a most outrageous or exceptionally cynical way by a group of individuals associated with resistance to authority or member of the public performing public order protection functions or other citizens trying to stop hooliganism, punishable by imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.

 Currently all necessary investigation (search) activities are being conducted aimed to establish all the circumstances of the committed criminal offense.
