For the first time in Uzhgorod. a master of handmade Taisa Dubenska ("Black Cat" – handmade jewelry and accessories) managed to combine what seems to be impossible to combine.
Tree has been symbolizing life since ancient times, and wood is widely used for making various symbols. Embroidery is one of the oldest and most common types of needlework among women. Those two most ancient symbols of the country – wood and embroidery – merged into one in the hands of Taisa.
Here’s what Taisa says about this unusual art form:
"The combination of the traditional art of cross-stitch with unexpected and modern materials fascinates from the first stitch and the first thread. Embroidered wooden jewelry have attracted me for a long time now, but they can not be found in Ukraine. So I, being a handmade enthusiast and a creative person, decided to experiment again. Now I am working on a series of cross-stitched jewelry and accessories on non-traditional materials such as wood, leather and plastic.
From designing base for embroidery to creation of embroidered jewelry – I do everything myself. The whole design is original, and exclusive products are custom-made.
The result of my work is a colorful collection of jewelry and accessories that highlight creativity and originality of their owners.
This Sunday, December 28, at 17:00, you have a unique opportunity to hold wood in your own hands, to pierce it with colored stitches and to create a warm product (wooden sheep – a souvenir for luck and success in the New year 2015), which will warm your in cold and long winter evenings" – Taisa Dubenska, co-organizer of the "Warmth of hands" project says.
