Today, at 16.00, in the House of Education in Uzhgorod, there will be the first meeting of the women’s unit. The head of the Right Sector power department Ruslan Kahanets invites those who want to join, or just to come to see what it is.
In addition, he reminds that "women and girls were fighting for a free Ukrainian state in the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen, Ukrainian armies of the liberation struggle period 1917-1921, in the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. But few know about the participation of women in the Ukrainian liberation movement in the Carpathian Ukraine in 1938-1939. And about women’s units – the so-called Women’s Sich in the structure of the "Carpathian Sich".
"Female Sich members were sewing uniforms (male and female), national and Sich flags. They were also liaisons and scouts: transmitted instructions and orders of the Main Command to district and local branches of the Carpathian Sich. Many girls worked in wireless telegraphy and telephone service, providing communication between the units. They gathered information about the location of Czechoslovak troops and plans of Czechoslovak military commanders in the region. In Khust, the Women’s Sich established a separate department of the Red Cross, where professional doctors worked. They arranged a hospital for the wounded in battles with the Czechoslovak army on the night of 13 to 14 of March, 1939."
