In Uzhgorod, they have develped the historical and architectural support program

To regulate construction, major repairs and reconstruction of historic buildings, architectural and city planning council of Uzhgorod reviewed and approved the historical and architectural support program of the city. The document commissioned by the city executive committee was developed by Mykola Haidi, the deputy director of the Research Institute of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

The historical and architectural support program of Uzhgorod defines the historic area of the city. This is the part of the city where the monuments of architecture have remained. The document also defines protection zones that actually duplicate the historic area of the city.

It should be noted that out of more than 400 cities in the country, only 31 have officially approved historical areas. As noted by Mykola Haida, by the end of this summer, Uzhgorod may be added to this list. "The developed document is declarative, it is an attachment to the city master plan and records the information on cultural, environmental, architectural heritage objects, zones of their protection. They are all unique and need to be protected from uncontrolled development and bad taste," – the developer said.

After the approval of the support program by the architectural and city planning council, it is also to be reviewed by the department of the socio-cultural development, arts and education institutions, preservation of the cultural heritage of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, the City Council and, ultimately, the Ministry of Culture. After the order of the Minister, the document is to be considered at the session of the City Council. Only after the program receives all approvals and deputies vote for it, it will enter into force.

Developers of the support program also suggest to add 200 newly detected objects to the monuments of the architectural heritage of the city. In particular, those are numerous apartment buildings on Zhupanatska, Sobranetska, Pidhirna, Fedynets, Dukhnovich, Voloshin, Korzo, Shvabska streets, Koryatovich, S.Petofi and Teatralna Squares, basements, cellars, the Reformed Church, the ruins of the Drugets palace, the ensemble of the regional hospital buildings, the former house of the "Society of O.Dukhnovich" on Pravoslavna embankment, the Roman Catholic Church, the former Czech gendarmerie, the main post office, houses , tombs, monuments, busts of famous figures of the region and so on.

In fact, members of the Architecture and City Planning Council noted that Uzhgorod is saturated with attractions and requires a separate architectural map.
