Hungarian Prime was not talking about state autonomy of Hungarians in Ukraine

The translation of the statement by the Prime Minister of Hungary on the autonomy of Hungarians in Ukraine was incorrect.

This was stated by the First Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Ukraine Elemir Kevsehi in his comments to a correspondent of the "Ukrinform".

"The statement by the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban was translated into Ukrainian language incorrectly. In his speech, the head of the Hungarian government was not talking about autonomy as such. It was about the creation of national and cultural autonomy of the Hungarian minorities in the Carpathian Euroregion", – Kevsehi said.

According to him, it is in the interests of certain circles to create such "sensations".

The Hungarian politician also said that the position of official Hungary announced by Orbán was important for Ukrainian Hungarians.

"It is especially important for Ukrainian Hungarians that, speaking of Ukraine, the Prime Minister emphasized that Hungary supports Ukraine in these difficult times, and that European standards, minority rights are the priorities for Ukraine," – he said.

Regarding the issues of cultural autonomy, self-government of communities, that were announced by the Hungarian Prime Minister, according to Kevsehi, they are not new to Ukraine.

"The issues of cultural autonomy, self-government of communities are not new, and given the current socio-political situation in the country, are really relevant for Ukraine. I hope that the new government will resolve these issues positively," – Kevsehi said.

Earlier, the media spread the inaugural statement of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as saying that the Hungarians in the Carpathian region, particularly in Ukraine, should have autonomy and the right to dual citizenship.
