Yesterday, May 10, the 14th and the 15th state fire and rescue units and the rescue department of the Special Purpose Emergency and Rescue Detachment were working on the fire in Uzhgorod 16-storeyed building, the press service of the State Emergencies Service Office in Transcarpathia reported. In total, 32 officers and 5 vehicles were engaged.
Rescuers arrived on call in minutes, and found out that the fire had broken out in the ventilation shaft. It was a burning garbage. Given the strong smoke, it was decided to carry out the evacuation of tenants from the 11th to 16th floors. As a result, 43 people were evacuated.
Rescuers promptly extinguished the fire and prevented its spreading to the living quarters of the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Recall that on May 10 at 16:52, the emergencies service of Transcarpathia was reported about the fire in the 16-storey residential building. Concerned residents raised the alarm – they smelled smoke in their homes and thought that one of the apartments on the 11th floor was on fire.
