In Transcarpathia, a local resident was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for trying to establish a mechanism for illegal sales of firearms
The judgment of the Appeal Court of Transcarpathian region against a 36-year-old citizen of Ukraine, who tried to establish a mechanism for the illegal sale of military weapons, has entered into force. The offender was looking for arms dealers in Ukraine, and was planning to sell arms abroad.
In early 2011, near one of the shopping centers in Uzhgorod, the police detained the offender "red-handed" during the acquisition of five combat pistols "Fort – 14 TP" 9×18 mm.
The pre-trial investigation proved that the 36-year-old offender intended to illegally resell weapons in Western Europe.
The investigation department of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region opened against the detainee a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 14 – Part 2 of Art.201 and Part 1 of Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – preparation to commit a crime by looking for accomplices of a conspiracy to commit a crime to purchase firearms weapons without statutory permit and to smuggle it across the customs border of Ukraine by prior conspiracy.
The Court of Appeal in Transcarpathian region found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced him to 5 years and 2 months imprisonment with confiscation of the contraband.
