On the occasion of the Day of local government, which is celebrated in Ukraine on December 7, Uzhgorod Mayor Victor Pogorelov decided to award a number of workers. Among the recipients, there are 14 of his subordinates and only one member of the city council. Although, this is the holiday of local council deputies, Pogorelov gave an award to one of them – Mariya Zilhalova who is a member of his son’s pro-government faction "For the development of Uzhgorod." In the order on the awarding of Zilhalova, it is stated that the award is given "for her diligent work, professionalism, proactive stance."
Recall that the deputy of Uzhgorod City Council Mariya Zilhalova, in January this year, was detained by the police on suspicion of taking bribes for assistance in the allocation of land. The reason for the detention was the appropriate statement of an Uzhgorod entrepreneur, who reported that the member of the permanent parliamentary commission on sustainable city land use Zilhalova was demanding from him 5,000 dollars for assistance in obtaining of a 4 hectares plot on Fedynets street. The detention occurred while she was receiving bribe in amount of 4000 dollars.
As the chief prosecutor of the region Volodymyr Korban said at the last press conference, the verdict against the deputy would have been announced by the end of the year.
