Lithuania, which holds the Presidency in the EU, called Ukrainian authorities to stop the violence and take immediate steps to restore confidence.
This is stated in the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkyavichus, the "Ukrainska Pravda", referring to the "Radio Svoboda", reported.
"My appeal to the Ukrainian authorities is to immediately stop any violence and provocation, to investigate all cases of using violence and to punish those who are responsible," – the statement says.
"Over the last few weeks, particularly the last night, the Ukrainian government lost a lot of confidence. Only by making immediate steps to comply with European values, they can restore confidence," – the Foreign Minister of Lithuania said.
According to Linkyavichus, the events on Maidan Nezalezhnosti showed "a conscious choice, and that the Ukrainian government is against the European way, the choice which is completely opposite to what President Yanukovych said in public."
As you know, on the night of December 11th, Special Forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted an operation to remove protesters from the Maidan.
However, special forces failed to "clear" Maidan and to drive protesters out of the buildings of the House of the Trade Unions and KSCA.
