The judgment of Uzhgorod city and district court regarding a 41-year-old resident of Perechyn district and his 37-year-old compatriot, who as part of a criminal group were illegally transporting Afghan citizens across Ukrainian-Slovakian border, has entered into force.
In October 2012, this citizen, previously convicted for trafficking persons across the state border of Ukraine, for 5,000 dollars remuneration agreed to transport 5 Afghan citizens to Slovakia bypassing checkpoints.
To implement the criminal intent, he engaged two countrymen as well as a resident of Uzhgorod district and a native of Lviv region.
October 30, 2012, near the village of Kamianytsia in Uzhgorod district, officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region detained the car in which the organizer was transporting illegal migrants. Later, the police arrested other persons involved in the illegal activities.
Uzhgorod City and District Court convicted the organizer of the criminal activities and his 37-year-old accomplice under Part 3 of Art.332 (trafficking of persons across the state border of Ukraine, committed by an organized group or with greed motives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced them to 5 years imprisonment with 2 years probation period.
Criminal proceedings against 3 other members of the criminal group are currently being considered by the court.
