Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region have detained three local residents who are suspected of organizing an international channel for smuggling illegal immigrants across the state border of Ukraine.
In late May, in one of the locations in Vynogradiv district, detectives of the Security Service of Ukraine detained two cars in which group members were carrying four people of Sri Lanka and one Pakistani. The offenders planned to smuggle illegal immigrants across the Ukrainian-Hungarian border outside border crossing points. The illegal migrants were heading to the European Union, choosing Ukraine as a transit area.
Currently, the criminal proceeding under Part 3 of Art.332 (illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine committed for mercenary motives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been initiated against the detained citizens of Ukraine. The article provides for punishment in the form of 7 to 9 years imprisonment.
The illegal migrants were transferred to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine for expulsion from the territory of Ukraine.
