The first half of the spring was cold and capricious. Vegetation processes in nature began 2 weeks later than usually. In the third decade of April, a dramatic, almost summer heat generated much vegetation in the plant world – the Deputy Head of the Transcarpathian Hydrometeorology Center Vasylyna Blokh says.
Although, flowering of early fruit trees began a week later, it was short-lived. High temperature (24-30 degrees) in the third week of April and early May caused rapid vegetation and flowering of trees and shrubs. Early fruit trees quickly lost their flowers and there are much less ovaries on cherry, apricot and peach trees. Agronomists do not predict whether the yield will be less.
By the way, in previous years the situation was the opposite – it was the frost that affected the fruit trees. The coldest first decade of May was recorded in 2007. It affected ovary and flowers of fruit trees.
As for non-fruit trees, for example, in the botanical garden of UzhNU, the magnolia this year blossomed one week earlier (late April instead of early May). In Uzhgorod, the linden is actively blooming. Botanists admit that they do not conduct special studies, but can not remember anything like that. But they name global warming among the causes of abnormal weather.
