For more than three weeks in a row, the team of the head of the regional prosecutor’s office department for advocacy, combating corruption and crime in the transport sector, police officers, traffice police, and Ukrainian Transport Inspectorate have been searching for "pirate" taxis – those carriers that have no permits and documents for their activities.
Similar raids, initiated by the regional prosecutor’s office, have been going on continuously for more than three weeks. During this time, more than a dozen illegal carriers have been caught.
Licensed carriers welcomed the beginning of such raids, because "pirates" take their passengers. The head of the regional prosecutor’s office department fot advocacy, combating corruption and crime in the transport sector Mykhailo Pantyo says that is dangerous to use services of a carrier, who does not have the appropriate permissions. "Passengers do not have insurance in case of accident, and drivers do not have timetable, so they can exceed speed" – the prosecutor said.
The main places of "pirates" gatherings – near the "Zakarpattya" hotel and the regional hospital – during such raids have become noticeably empty – people go to the official bus stations. However, Mykhailo Pantyo claims that it is just the beginning. After they have dealt with "pirates" in Uzhgorod and Mukachevo, they plann to cover the entire region with the appropriate checks.
