An unusual seminar was jointly held in Uzhgorod by surgeons and priests. Healers of souls and bodies of men talked about the unity of physical and spiritual. The collaboration between medicine and the church restores its long-standing tradition. Because a harmonious unity of these two vocations helps to achieve maximum effect of the treatment. An example of such synthesis is the life of St. Luke – a Professor of Medicine and a Bishop, a talented scientist and wise confessor.
During the seminar, the head of the Surgery Department of the Uzhgorod central city hospital Vasyl Hanchyn and archpriest Vasyl Keretsman told their colleagues about the figure of St. Luke. His work "Essays on purulent surgery" for decades has been required reading for many physicians.
Today, the Orthodox diocese together with medics of the region implement projects to fight TB and AIDS, conduct campaigns aimed at preventing abortions, outline the main areas of work of palliative and hospice care.

After the seminar, Archbishop Theodore performed a pleasant mission. On behalf of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church he awarded Roman Shnitser with the Order of St. Luke for the cooperation of church and medicine.
