Custom officers confiscated alcohol and food products at the border

At the customs post "Tisa", Chop customs inspectors drew up a protocol against one of the passengers of the minibus, who decided to import from abroad 65 bottles of expensive Italian wine and Scotch whiskey, preliminary estimated at more than 20,000 UAH, without paying taxes. Another citizen of Ukraine, also returning from Italy by a van, tried to violate customs laws by importing 188 packages of expensive Italian cheeses. 

In the first case, a 23-year-old van passenger, returning from the Italian town of San Remo to Chernivtsi region, during customs clearance assured that he was carrying only personal belongings. However, when customs officers checked the luggage compartment of the vehicle, the man didn’t look that law-abiding anymore. As it turned out, the young man was carrying ten boxes of alcoholic beverages and food, which for some reason he did not want to declare. Among the goods there was expensive Italian wine and Scotch whiskey of different brands and on top of that 152 packs of coffee "Caffe Vergnano 1882." Thus, 18 bottles of Italian wine of different brands: "Salgari", "Valpolicella Ripasso", "Amarone della Valpolicella Classico" and "Valpolicella Classico", 5 bottles of liqueur "Beautiful", "Whisky Cream", 42 bottles of whiskey "Black Crow", "Old American Whiskey", "Queen Margot", "Scotch Rill", "The Golden River" and "The Great Macaulay", were confiscated by inspectors, because they are limited for import into the territory of Ukraine in such amounts. 

 In the second case, a 42-year-old driver of the minibus "Mercedes-Benz" in the "red corridor" of the customs control checkpoint "Tisa" stated in the declaration the absence of goods subject to restrictions of transportation across the customs border of Ukraine. But customs officers checked the contents of the luggage compartment of the vehicle and found among the personal belongings of passengers 9 foamed boxes of food, which belonged to the gourmet driver. Boxes with 92 kilograms of Italian cheeses: "Fior di Latte", "Nigro Casearia" and "Mozzarella Gustosi saposi" were confiscated by customs officials until the court decision. 

  "Since the beginning of 2013, Chop customs officials seized more than 600,000 UAH worth of food and drinks, that citizens were trying to illegally import to Ukraine", – the head of Uzhgorod service for customs authorities expert support Hanna Turyanytsya reported.
