Police promise not to bother moderately drunk citizens

At least on New Year’s Eve and in Kharkiv.

Kharkiv chief of the police instructed the personnel to deal with minor administrative offenses during the Christmas holidays with preventive conversations. They do not want to spoil the holiday.

The policemen promised not to be too harsh on mildly drunk people celebrating the New Year on Svoboda Square in Kharkiv.

"If a person has drunk a glass of champagne and behaves like a normal person would behave on the New Year’s Eve, I think, there will be absolutely no actions on the part of police officers. If this person is in the stage of intoxication, which causes a threat to others, grossly violates public order – of course, there will be a response, "- said the deputy chief of the police in Kharkiv region Mykola Holub.

According to him, the police will also ignore minor administrative offenses, such as smoking in the wrong places.

Whether such condonation of Kharkov policemen will be followed by their colleagues in other regions of Ukraine – we’ll see on the New Year’s Eve.
