Vitaliy Semal may be imprisoned for up to ten years

Yesterday, October 2 in Uzhgorod police officers detained Uzhgorod deputy mayor, deputy of the city council. 

Prosecutor of the region instituted criminal case against the member of the Uzhgorod City Council on the grounds of crimes under Art. 365, Part 3, of the Criminal Code (abuse of power or authority). Investigators took the decision on his detention according to Art. 115 of the CPC of Ukraine. 

The Deputy Mayor is suspected of illegal dealings in the purchase of mini-boilers at the expense of the local budget for heating schools and preschools of regional center totaling over 3,3 mln. hryvnias.  Such actions, according to the Criminal Code of Ukraine, shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of seven to ten years with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years.

The criminal case is in the investigative department of the Office of the MIA of Ukraine in the Transcarpathian region. Progress of preliminary investigation is under the control of regional prosecutor’s office – informed the press service of the Prosecutor of the Transcarpathian region.
