Uzhgorod became one of the five selected cities in Ukraine, where the action "Healthy Heart Basket", dedicated to World heart day, was held. As part of the campaign, during the week in all districts people had their blood pressure measured, and an active education campaign on early signs of cardiovascular disease and the principles of good nutrition and healthy lifestyle was conducted.
On Thursday the final stage of the campaign took place, during which it was possible to see the theatrical performance of children from the sanatorium "Malyatko." The children eagerly told and showed how important it is for the heart to move a lot and to have a proper nutrition. Poems, songs, assembling puzzles and presentation of the food beneficial for the heart turned the event in bright holiday.
Head of the Health department of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Roman Shnitser noted that the purpose of the action is to draw public attention not only to the problems of the cardiovascular system, but primarily to the disease prevention, healthy lifestyles and nutrition.
Each district approached the task creatively, each one tried to convince strict jury that it is their product that is the most beneficial for the heart. All 13 districts of Transcarpathia, as well as Uzhgorod and Mukachevo cities participated in the competition.
Determining the winners the jury noted that nutrition should be rational, balanced, beneficial and varied and so all the products presented at the competition deserve their place in the "Healthy heart basket."
Thus, the Transcarpathian basket with a variety of products ranging from honey, nuts, cheese, berries, apples, grapes to corn dishes, cheese and even Transcarpathian kiwi was sent to Kyiv.
In the capital they will finally decide which of the products from different regions of Ukraine deserve special attention and the collective basket will be transferred to the area in which the worst incidence of cardiovascular disease is recorded.
